How long will it take?
I would aim to complete the first revision within 2 weeks of accepting the commission and finish the entire painting 1 week after I’ve received your approval to continue.

If there are any unforeseen delays or issues, I will contact you by email.

Will you paint family portraits?
Yes. But because each extra face takes time, I have to ask for an additional £20 per person. So if you wanted a standard portrait of four people, for example, it would cost £110 for my flat fee, plus £60 for the additional three members - a total of £170.

In what format, resolution and size will I receive the finished painting?
You will receive the painting in high quality jpeg format and an additional PSD version for printing purposes. All portraits will be painted in a resolution suitable for print (300ppi). The overall size will vary from picture to picture, but the finished version will be at least 3000x3000 pixels.

If you want any additional formats or smaller sizes, please ask.

Do you only paint portraits?
If you have an idea for something other than a portrait, feel free to ask, but please understand that portraits are what I do best. If you want a sci-fi  piece or a painting of a car, for example, there are artists who specialise in these subjects and would do a better job than me.

However, I don't mind adding some additional text and touches to turn your portrait into a book cover, CD sleeve or flyer if you want. I can even display it on my site with your web address and details for some extra publicity.

Do you offer a printing service?
Sorry, I don't have the equipment to do this, but there are many print shops online that can print your painting. All they need is the finished PSD file. Most print shops will even print onto canvas, clothing and will offer to frame the image.

How do you calculate your prices?
I base my prices on the length of time it will take to complete. On average, a single portrait can take me anything up to 30 hours to complete...and that's without any complications. Extra faces, backgrounds and themes take extra time, hence the small additional fee.

If you break down my flat fee to an hourly rate, you will see that I am actually asking less than Britain’s national minimum wage.

Can you guarantee a good job?
I guarantee that I will paint it to the best of my ability. I take a lot of pride in my work and I want you to like what I paint. Although it is impossible for me to match an exact vision you have in your head, I will keep you informed and listen to your input. I also welcome additional photos or examples you want to share to get the final painting to your liking.

Can you put me into a heroic pose or fantasy situation?
I am happy to paint a basic fantasy background or place people into scenes of their choice, but the focus will be on the portrait.

To create a full scene, with interaction between characters and the environment will require extensive research, concept sketches and will take many additional hours of work. I may consider such a piece in exceptional cases, but will have to request a much higher rate.

Will you use my portrait on any public websites/magazines?
Not without your permission. You will own exclusive rights to the painting and can choose to keep it as a private piece.

However, if you're a model and want some extra publicity, I'd be happy to display your portrait with your details and website address.

Will you paint nudes or any suggestive poses?
Only if it is tasteful. I will not paint pornography or any graphic or gross images and any sexually suggestive images of children will be reported to authorities.

Can you make me slimmer, more muscular, hide my spots, change my eye colour?
Yes, I can do any of the above at no extra charge. I will try to make all of my portraits flattering, but if you have any specific requests let me know.

What if I want to cancel the painting?
I will contact you with a first revision where you can discuss any changes or issues you have with the painting. If you wish to cancel the painting at this stage, I will send you all the work I have completed up to this point and you will not be charged anything more.

Please note: When cancelling a painting, deposits are non-refundable.

I have a business idea. Can I skip the fee and cut you in on my profits instead?
Sorry, but I cannot afford to take these risks. Digital art is like any other profession - it costs time and takes a lot of work. Artists and designers who work on this basis are very rare. After all, we all need to make a living.
